The first ever authorized DVD release of films by Andy Warhol. Features thirteen of his classic silent, black and white film portraits. Subjects include Nico, Lou Reed, Edie Sedgwick, Dennis Hopper, and more. Shot between 1964 and 1966 at Warhol's Factory in NYC, these screen tests are presented with newly commissioned soundtracks performed by Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips (formerly of Luna and currently recording as Dean & Britta). Includes behind the scenes making of the new soundtrack, a video interview with Dean & Britta, and a 40-page booklet with liner notes and biographies of the screen test subjects.

Consumerism, glamour, disasters and mass media Andy Warhol's art is a mirror image of America. Son of Slovakian immigrants, he rose, with his Campbell's Soup Cans and silk-screen-duplicated Marilyn, to become a Pop Art icon. His blond wig and eccentriclifestyle, and the wild goings-on at his legendary Factory became his trademarks. He turned art into amarketable and reproducible commodity. Designer, artist, film-maker, music producer and publisher to some he was a genius, to others a shallow epigone. Kim Evans portrays the controversial phenomenon and human 'total artwork' that was Warhol.

Dean & Britta (ex-Luna, Galaxie 500) were commissioned by the Andy Warhol Museum to compose and perform songs for 13 Screen Tests - short, silent portrait films made by Warhol in the mid-'60s. This live show has been touring the world for 18 months, with 50 performances to date, playing everywhere from the Sydney Opera House to NYC's Lincoln Center, to a 15th-century cathedral in Paris.

Aside from new tunes by Pavement (the Lou Reed hommage Sensitive Euro Man) and Yo La Tengo, this soundtrack looks back on the '60s with period covers by Wilco, R.E.M., Ben Lee, Bettie Serveert, Jewel, and Luna. The latter's velvety take on Donovan's "Season of the Witch" is the highlight; Ben Lee's massacre of "Itchycoo Park" the nadir. --Jeff Bateman

His career includes being one of the foremost producers for record companies including Windham Hill, RCA Victor, Hearts of Space, and Celestial Harmonies. Keane's work has earned him a Grammy and nearly 30 Billboard top ten albums in addition to multiple Emmy awards. In his 25 year career Keane has scored nearly 400 films. Keane's score to "Andy Warhol" marks his 16 year collaboration with Ric Burns which began in 1990 with the documentary "Coney Island". "Andy Warhol: A Documentary Film" is a deeply moving portrait of the most famous and famously controversial artist of the second half of the twentieth century. The soundtrack to the PBS series like Warhol himself, often presents a simple and detached surface that belies a vastly complex and moving interior.
